This anniversary year has led me to think more deeply about how the LORD has been working at Brookstone over the years. I believe everything, no matter how small or large, has an ‘appointed time’ in His plan and purpose.
Following God’s call, a handful of us started Brookstone 20 years ago. At that time, we could never have imagined how the school, which started from such humble beginnings, could become the flourishing community it is today. Nor could we have foreseen just how vital Brookstone’s mission would be in this cultural moment!
Every year at Brookstone continues to be a miracle of God’s grace and timing for events to happen. That applies to my own life as well. When John took the helm last summer, the LORD showed me that I needed more time to spend with my family, especially now that we have a two-year-old granddaughter! In talking with John months ago, I broached the subject of stepping down from my director’s position to focus solely on major gifts, foundations and planned giving. I was thrilled when John offered me the opportunity to make this transition! I look forward to this next season and being able to continue serving in a mission that has been such a big part of my life.
As I think about the future, I pray that the same passion and energy that drives this wonderful enterprise today will endure. Twenty-five and fifty years from now, Brookstone will still be blessing future generations of under-resourced students, honoring God’s command to train up children in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6).
We’ve already seen how God’s mighty providence works!
