Steve HallHead of School
Mr. Steve Hall received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Grove City College in Pennsylvania. He comes to us with administrative and leadership skills acquired through 20 years' experience working in management and engineering. He has also honed his leadership and strategic planning skills through his involvement with a humanitarian mission ("Won-By-One to Jamaica"), his church, and his advocacy work with Thompson Child and Family Focus. As a certified Therapeutic Foster Parent himself, Mr. Hall is known in the Charlotte community as a leader who has a heart and passion for helping underprivileged children.
Deborah Preston has a passion for Christian education that has led her to serve for more than 25 years in numerous churches and Christian schools as teacher, Christian Education Director, and now principal at Brookstone Schools. She has taught at the elementary, middle, and high school levels and brings a wealth of knowledge to Brookstone. She views her work as service and her day to day interactions with students, teachers, and parents as ministry. Her love for the Lord Jesus Christ continues to be the driving force behind her tireless dedication to furthering Christian Education.
Julie SmithKindergarten Teacher
Julie Smith has more than a decade of teaching experience in both public and Christian schools in North Carolina. Originally from eastern North Carolina, she graduated summa cum laude NC Wesleyan College and went right into teaching. She has taught at Brookstone Schools for seven years, and teaching kindergarten has been the most rewarding experience she’s had so far. Julie is a mother to 4 children and has 3 stepchildren with her husband Mike.
Lauren HoganKindergarten Teacher
Lauren Hogan graduated from Liberty University with a degree in Elementary and Special Education. She has been involved with Brookstone for several years through summer camp, and considers it a dream come true to work here as a teacher. This is her first year teaching and she is excited to impact children through education, but also to teach them more about the Lord.
Kelly CarmolaFirst Grade Teacher
Kelly Carmola graduated from UNC Wilmington with a BA in Elementary Education and a concentration in Spanish. Kelly also has a Master’s degree in Reading Education from UNC Charlotte. Kelly has worked with kids with significant disabilities. She has a passion for teaching children and helping them become closer to Christ.
Kelly NovosolichFirst Grade Teacher
Kelly Novosolich graduated from Trinity College of Florida with an AA in Biblical Studies and a BA in Business Management. Kelly fell in love with education while homeschooling her twin sons, which led her to attend Wingate’s MAT program to earn her teaching license. She spent her first year of teaching at CMS subbing and teaching in a special needs classroom at Lansdowne Elementary.
Jai’Eisha HuntleySecond Grade Teacher
Jai’Eisha Huntley graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She has had a passion for teaching from a very young age and it warms her heart when children realize they are all capable of learning and can use what they learn to reach their overall goals in life.
Ray Kale JacksonSecond Grade Assistant Teacher
Ray Kale Jackson majored in Early Childhood Education at Cuyahoga Community College. In the last 10 years she has served as an assistant, a lead teacher, and director of various summer and afterschool programs. Ray Kale has also worked with students with special needs. She has a passion for meeting the academic and spiritual needs of each child.
Lauren LawrenceThird Grade Teacher
Lauren received her teaching degree from Lee University in Cleveland, TN, where she met her husband. Lauren has over 30 years of teaching experience, teaching third graders for the past 7 years. She has a passion for building relationships with her students so she can impact their lives for Christ.
Kathy AcuffFourth Grade Teacher
Kathy Acuff graduated from David Lipscomb University with a BA degree in Elementary Education and a double minor in computers and math. She has lived in Charlotte for over 14 years and is the proud mother of three boys. Kathy has a passion for teaching and working with children to help them discover their God-given gifts.
Elizabeth MelvinFifth Grade Teacher
Elizabeth is a Wake Forest University graduate and Dallas transplant who moved to Charlotte in 2015 after marrying her husband Parker. She has five years of experience teaching in Texas at a school with a similar vision and heart, and she is excited to join the staff at Brookstone this year as the fifth grade teacher!
Susanne ParkerUpper School Language Arts Teacher
Susanne Parker taught for 25 years as a fourth grade teacher with Hickory City and Cumberland County Schools. She also served as Lead Resident Counselor and Assistant to the Program Director at Crossnore School, Inc. She and her husband moved to Charlotte in early 2010 and now serve as a "Cares Team" with the Apartment Life ministry. She has a grown son and three grandchildren who live in Asheville, NC.
Rebecca EssahUpper School Science Teacher
Rebecca has taught secondary Science at both the high school and middle school levels for more than six years. She obtained a BS in Biology from Davidson College as well as a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management from Keller Graduate School of Management. Dedicated to providing quality Christian education, Rebecca is also an author and psalmist who seeks to impart godly wisdom and a love for Christ to all generations.
Donna CloudBible Teacher / NILD Therapist
Donna Cloud has a BS in Business from Johnson C. Smith University and a Master’s degree in Christian Education. Prior to her career in teaching, Donna worked with the Federal Reserve Bank of Charlotte in accounting for 10 years. Donna has a heart for evangelism, education and children.
Melfrieda LoganOffice Administrator
Melfrieda joined the staff of Brookstone in 2014 after years of serving as a volunteer. She previously worked as the leader of camp and after school programs for five years at the Steele Creek YMCA. Frieda keeps students, staff, and guests smiling at Brookstone through her continual kindness and servant’s attitude.
Pam ShufordScholarship Assistant
Pam Shuford has a BA from the University of South Carolina and a Certificate in Bible from Columbia International University. Her background is in database development, computer programming and office management. Pam loves working with children and using her technical skills to assist the teachers and staff at Brookstone. She is married, has four adult children and five grandchildren.
Suzanne WilsonDirector of Advancement
Suzanne Wilson has served at Brookstone since its foundation in 2001. She has a BA from Emory University, a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Glasgow in Scotland, and a Certification in Learning Disabilities from UNC-Charlotte. As Brookstone's principal administrator for the first eight years, Suzanne holds deep convictions about holding all children and faculty to high standards of academic excellence and Christian character.
Laura TownsendMarketing and Communications Manager
Laura Townsend graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in Communications. Before coming to Brookstone, she worked at a public relations agency in Charlotte on sports and lifestyle brands. Laura loves the Lord and is grateful to use the gifts He has given her to serve others in her role as Marketing and Communications Manager.
Nah DarkwaDatabase Manager
Nah Darkwa received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Banking and Finance from University of Ghana and her Master of Business Administration from the University of Akron. She loves working with numbers and organizing and has a passion for equipping and preparing the next generation of leaders through sowing seeds of wisdom. The combination of the two is the reason she finds herself at Brookstone Schools.
Eric MaustSystems Developer
Eric Maust graduated from Grove City College with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He came to Charlotte and interned at Brookstone through the Charlotte Fellows program. Now as a staff member, he loves to problem-solve and develop the systems of the school, while learning from the wealth of wisdom within the Brookstone family.
Casey GeorgeMarketing and Communications Intern
Casey George graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Arts in Modern Foreign Languages. Casey recently moved to Charlotte to participate in the Charlotte Fellows program for the next nine months. As part of the Fellows program, Casey will be interning with the Advancement team here at Brookstone. She looks forward to serving, cultivating relationships with volunteers and students, and witnessing all the Lord will do at Brookstone during this school year.
